How to remove scratches from glasses and restore their new, shiny appearance: a simple recipe

If you mean eyeglasses, there’s an important catch: most DIY “scratch-removal recipes” involving toothpaste, baking soda, or abrasive powders don’t actually remove scratches safely. They can strip anti-reflective or protective coatings and make the lenses look worse.

👓 What you can safely do
For dirt or smudges: Rinse the lenses with lukewarm water, then use a small amount of mild dish soap and your fingertips. Rinse and dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
For tiny surface marks: Check whether they’re actually scratches or residue/coating damage. Some marks disappear after proper cleaning.
For genuine scratches: Unfortunately, there isn’t a reliable household method to polish them out without potentially distorting the lens.
For expensive or prescription lenses: An optician can tell you whether the lenses can be replaced under a warranty or whether replacement is the safest option.

Avoid toothpaste, baking soda, glass polish, and abrasive cleaners. Making a lens appear temporarily shinier isn’t worth damaging its optical surface.

If you tell me whether your glasses are plastic/polycarbonate, glass, or have an anti-reflective coating, I can suggest the safest way to deal with the marks.
