8 Fruits That May Support Healthy Blood Clotting Balance
No fruit can safely “dissolve blood clots” or replace treatment for a diagnosed clot. However, fruits provide nutrients and plant compounds that can support normal cardiovascular and blood-vessel health.
Berries — strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries provide polyphenols that support vascular health.
Oranges — rich in vitamin C and flavonoids.
Pomegranates — contain antioxidant polyphenols that may support cardiovascular health.
Grapes — provide polyphenols such as resveratrol.
Apples — provide flavonoids and soluble fiber.
Kiwi — provides vitamin C, potassium, and other antioxidant compounds.
Avocado — supplies potassium, fiber, and healthy monounsaturated fats.
Cherries — contain anthocyanins and other polyphenols.
Important if you take blood thinners
Don’t deliberately eat large amounts of a particular fruit to try to change your blood’s clotting ability. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interact with some medications, while vitamin-K-containing foods are particularly relevant to people taking warfarin—consistency in dietary vitamin K intake is generally more important than avoiding all such foods.
If you have a suspected blood clot—such as one-sided leg swelling/pain, sudden shortness of breath, or chest pain—don’t try to treat it with food. Seek urgent medical attention.
