How to Make Your Jewelry Shine Again: A Simple Cleaning Method

A simple cleaning method works well for many solid-gold, platinum, and diamond jewelry pieces, but different gemstones require different care.

✨ Gentle jewelry-cleaning method
Fill a bowl with warm—not hot—water.
Add a few drops of mild dish soap and mix.
Soak the jewelry for 5–10 minutes.
Gently brush around settings and crevices with a very soft toothbrush.
Rinse thoroughly in a separate bowl of clean water rather than over an open sink.
Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth and allow it to air-dry completely.
⚠️ Don’t use this method on everything

Avoid soaking pearls, opals, turquoise, emeralds, glued stones, or delicate/antique jewelry unless you’re sure the material can tolerate water. Pearls in particular should generally be wiped gently rather than soaked.

Also avoid toothpaste, bleach, abrasive powders, and harsh household cleaners, which can scratch or damage jewelry.

For sterling silver, a purpose-made silver polishing cloth is often the safest way to restore shine.
