“Put 4 drops in your ear and you will hear like new again!

That claim is misleading. There is no universal “4 drops” that can restore hearing “like new.”

If the hearing problem is caused by blocked earwax, certain ear drops can soften the wax and may improve hearing once the wax clears. NHS guidance lists products such as olive oil or sodium-bicarbonate drops for this purpose.

But hearing loss can have many other causes—age-related hearing loss, noise damage, infection, eardrum problems, or inner-ear disorders—and ear drops won’t reverse those.

⚠️ Don’t put random substances in your ear

Avoid homemade mixtures, hydrogen peroxide or other remedies unless they’re specifically appropriate for your situation. Do not use ear drops if you have, or might have, a perforated eardrum unless a clinician has advised you to do so.

Also, don’t use cotton buds or other objects inside the ear, as they can push wax deeper or injure the ear.

Most important: if your hearing loss happened suddenly, particularly in one ear, seek urgent medical assessment rather than trying drops at home. Sudden hearing loss can require prompt treatment.

If you tell me what the “4 drops” are supposed to be (olive oil, hydrogen peroxide, garlic oil, etc.), I can tell you whether that specific remedy is safe and whether there’s evidence it works.
