You Won’t Believe What 2 Minutes Can Do to Your Puffy Eyes! 👀
Waking up with puffy eyes? A simple 2-minute cold-compress trick may help reduce temporary swelling and make the area around your eyes look fresher.
The 2-minute trick
Wet a clean, soft washcloth with cool water and gently wring it out.
Close your eyes and place the cool cloth gently over them for about two minutes. Don’t press or rub.
Remove the cloth and pat your skin dry. Avoid pulling at the delicate skin under your eyes.
Why does it work?
-
Temporary swelling: Cool temperatures can constrict superficial blood vessels and help reduce the appearance of puffiness.
-
Morning fluid retention: Puffiness that develops overnight may gradually improve as you become upright and move around.
-
A refreshed appearance: Cooling may soothe the area, although the effect is usually temporary.
What else helps prevent puffy eyes?
-
Get sufficient sleep consistently.
-
Reduce excess salt, especially in the evening, if your diet is high in sodium.
-
Manage seasonal allergies if they contribute to swelling.
-
Avoid rubbing your eyes.
-
Stay adequately hydrated.
Important: Two minutes may help with mild morning puffiness, but it won’t remove persistent under-eye bags caused by genetics, aging, or the natural structure of the face. Avoid placing ice directly on your skin.
If swelling is sudden, painful, red, affects only one eye, or comes with vision changes, seek medical advice promptly.
Do your eyes usually look puffy when you wake up, or are the bags present throughout the day? The likely cause—and the best approach—can differ.
