Everyone Knows Toothpaste and Vaseline, but Few Use Them Together Like This

That headline is typical beauty-hack clickbait. “Toothpaste + Vaseline” is often promoted online for things like wrinkles, dark spots, dry skin, or removing blemishes—but there isn’t a medically established combination that produces those dramatic results.

🪥 Why you should be cautious

Toothpaste isn’t formulated for facial skin. It can contain detergents, abrasives, flavoring agents, and other ingredients that may cause:

  • Irritation and redness
  • Dryness and peeling
  • Contact dermatitis
  • Worsening of acne or pigmentation

Vaseline (petrolatum), on the other hand, is a well-established occlusive moisturizer that can help protect and reduce water loss from dry, irritated skin.

Putting Vaseline over an irritating substance such as toothpaste doesn’t make the toothpaste safe—it can potentially trap the irritating ingredients against your skin.

If the viral trick is for a specific problem

  • Dry skin: Use plain petrolatum on damp skin.
  • Pimples: Use evidence-based acne ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
  • Dark spots: Sunscreen plus appropriate pigment treatments is much safer than toothpaste.
  • Wrinkles: Sun protection and retinoids have considerably better evidence.

If you send me the exact toothpaste-and-Vaseline recipe or the link, I can tell you what the trick claims to do and whether there’s any evidence behind it.
