Sprinkle 1 spoon on dead orchid roots! Suddenly revived and blooms all year round

If you’re referring to the viral gardening claim “Sprinkle 1 spoon on dead orchid roots and it will suddenly revive and bloom all year,” be skeptical. There is no magic powder that can revive genuinely dead orchid roots.

If an orchid has damaged or rotting roots, the reliable approach is:

  1. Remove the orchid from its pot and inspect the roots.

  2. Cut away dead, mushy, hollow, or black roots with clean, sterilized scissors. Healthy roots are generally firm and may be green, white, or silvery.

  3. Repot in fresh, airy orchid medium, such as suitable bark-based orchid mix.

  4. Give it bright, indirect light and good air circulation.

  5. Water only when the medium is approaching dryness, rather than keeping the roots constantly wet.

  6. Don’t pile baking soda, cinnamon, fertilizer, or other household powders onto the roots. Some may be useful in limited circumstances, but concentrated powders can irritate or damage living root tissue.

  7. Be patient. New roots and flower spikes can take weeks to months to develop.

Also, “blooms all year round” is not a realistic promise for most orchids. Healthy orchids can rebloom repeatedly when their species, light, temperature, watering, and nutrition are appropriate.

If you tell me what the “1 spoon” ingredient is (cinnamon, baking soda, sugar, fertilizer, etc.), I can tell you whether that particular viral tip is actually safe for orchids.
