If you’re referring to the viral baking-soda grease remover, the claim that there’s one special recipe that works on all surfaces is exaggerated. Baking soda is a mild abrasive and can help with some household grease, but the surface matters.
🧽 Simple baking-soda paste
Mix:
-
3 tablespoons baking soda
-
1 tablespoon water
Add water gradually until you get a thick paste.
Apply it to greasy areas such as stovetops, the outside of appliances, or stainless-steel surfaces that the manufacturer says are safe to clean this way. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes, gently wipe with a soft sponge, then rinse and dry.
Where to be careful
Don’t assume this paste is safe everywhere. Baking soda can scratch or dull:
-
Polished or delicate surfaces
-
Some stainless-steel finishes
-
Aluminum
-
Nonstick coatings
-
Natural stone such as marble
And never mix baking soda with bleach or other cleaning chemicals.
For heavy grease, a small amount of dishwashing detergent is often more effective than baking soda alone because detergent is specifically designed to break up grease.
If you tell me which areas you’re trying to clean—oven, stove, cabinets, extractor hood, tiles, or something else—I can give you the safest recipe for each.
