What’s the Small Round Hole on Your Nail Clipper For?

What’s the small round hole on a nail clipper for? ✂️

If you mean the small hole near the end of the lever/handle, it’s usually there for a surprisingly simple reason:

  • It can act as a key-ring or attachment hole, allowing the clipper to be carried on a keychain or grooming kit.

  • On some clipper designs, the opening is also related to how the lever is assembled or pivots.

There are also nail clippers with larger openings built into the body. Those may be designed to catch nail clippings or serve another mechanical purpose, depending on the model.

So if you’ve seen a post claiming that the hole is a secret tool for cleaning under your nails, sharpening the clipper, or removing splinters, that’s generally not what it’s designed for.

If you send me a photo of your nail clipper, I can identify exactly what that particular hole is for.
